Andrew started life as a chartered accountant with KPMG Peat
Marwick but the excitement was too much and so he returned to his first first
love, the law. Over 15 years he majored in smash and grab, crash and bash, hit
and giggle, slip and fall and the occasional bit of shoot first and apologise
later.
The latter part of his legal career was spent providing
advice to government, often defending what some may have considered to be the
indefensible. To keep perspective Andrew joined 2 of his musical colleagues to
develop and perform witty but brutally honest songs, targeting anything
controversial and anyone in a senior position. Very soon the band became the
lead act at all major firm events, where the CEO often came in for special
ribbing (yes, lawyers do have a sense of humour).
In between songs Andrew was a partner in a national law firm
(over 800 employees), the practice manager of a litigation team of 70, and
ultimately the chief client partner (head hand shaker) and national head of
marketing and business developement. During this time he developed an enviable
reputation as a leader, relationship builder and speaker. More importantly, he
developed a passion and skill for and unleashing talent and growing leaders in
his teams, a skill that brought a very significant client, team and management
following.
In 2007 Andrew decided it was time for a ‘sea change’ and
took Karen and their 4 children to the NSW mid-north coast. He established
Dare2XL and now provides corporate leadership training, executive coaching and
speaks on a range of topics. He is also a business partner of Franklin Covey
and facilitates their corporate training on “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective
People” and “Leadership: Great Teams, Great Leaders, Great Results.”
Andrew is passionate about character based leadership, or
leadership from the inside out: before we can lead anyone, we first have to
lead ourselves. That includes engaging ourselves in what we do at work, as
Andrew has seen too many of his friends and colleagues needlessly ploughing
through their working life rudderless and disempowered.
Andrew is also passionate about engaging and unleashing
talent – one of the greatest and most rewarding challenges for any leader is to
release the passion and talent in their team. That inspiration starts with the
development of trust, understanding what really matters to each team member and
identifying their specific contribution to the team’s success.
Andrew’s passion is obvious and his humour contagious, so
